Police have shared the heartwarming moment they reunited an autistic boy with his iPad, which was snatched from him by gang members on an Auckland train last week.

Kiwi actor Shane Cortese recounted the terrifying incident where two men and a woman stole the iPad off his 10-year-old son, Kees.

"Kees and I were on one of our regular train trips so he could make VLOGS," The Outrageous Fortune star wrote on Facebook.

"He sits a couple of seats in front of me and loves these trips. At Middlemore two men and a woman got on the train and sat around us and acted very intimidatingly to both me and my 10-year-old."

Cortese said his son became agitated and began "panicking and crying" when his iPad was taken.

But Counties Manukau Police say they've had a "good result", able to reunite the boy with his iPad on Thursday morning.

"Sometimes the most rewarding part of the job is putting a smile back on the faces of victims."

Kees also received a tour of the police station.

A 29-year-old Crips gang member from Otahuhu has been charged with theft.
