David Tennant surprises wife Georgia with 'secret' present for 40th birthday
Doctor Who actor David Tennant made a sweet personal admission during the latest episode of ITV's The Assembly
David Tennant has revealed a "secret" present to celebrate his wife Georgia's significant birthday.
The Doctor Who star features on The Assembly on Sunday (April 27), where he engages with a group of young people who are autistic, neurodivergent or have learning disabilities.
The new series, which kicked off on ITV1 last night, also sees the likes of Gary Lineker, Danny Dyer and Jade Thirlwall facing questions.
In the latest episode of The Assembly, now available on ITVX, David is quizzed about something he's secretly proud of.
"What are you secretly proud of but have never told anyone about until now?" Sophie inquires, reports Edinburgh Live.
"Shall I tell you a secret? When we're recording this, it's about to be my wife's 40th birthday. A few years ago, she got my name tattooed on her and she has been banging on at me about getting a tattoo to match," David confesses.
"It's never been something I wanted to do, I don't like needles. But because it's her 40th birthday, I just had that done, which is her initial," he adds, before showing off a small "G" tattoo on his forearm.
"I've been going around with a bandage on my wrist at home for the last few days so she doesn't know so I can reveal it as a birthday present."
"Oh that's so sweet," an astonished Sophie responds, with the rest of the group looking visibly surprised.
David continues: "So, I'm quite proud that I managed to sit and have that done without screaming or passing out, and that for the past few days I've managed to pretend it hasn't happened yet.
"That's something I'm very proud of that I haven't told anyone about before this very moment, and I haven't even told my wife yet!"
During the interview, David also tackles questions regarding his children, trans rights, religious beliefs and his role in Doctor Who.
On the subject of trans rights, he calls on JK Rowling to "let people be" and says the row over the rights of transgender people is as "medieval and absurd" as Margaret Thatcher's divisive Section 28 of 1988.
After the episode aired on ITVX, numerous audience members took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to convey their enthusiasm, with one viewer commenting: "He answered everyone's questions with such sincerity and kindness. David Tennant, you're truly an inspiration."
"@David_Tennant I've just watched #TheAssembly my god. You're a wonderful human being as are the people you were with. I laughed, I smiled, I shed a tear. ABSOLUTELY the best TV I've watched ever. You are the best. Thank you," echoed another fan.
