New crude pipeline to be constructed to Hungary from this neighbouring country

The construction of a crude pipeline running between Hungary and Serbia will start soon, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said in Belgrade on Friday.
Szijjártó said the pipeline, including a 180km-190km stretch in Hungary, would be completed by 2027, ensuring fuel supply for Serbia and the region. He added that Hungary and Serbia would double interconnector capacity between their electricity grids by 2028.

He noted that a number of countries in Central Europe were getting their gas delivered via Serbia after Ukraine stopped forwarding Russian gas to Europe. Hungary is getting around 7.5 billion cubic metres of gas a year via Serbia, he added. Szijjártó said Ukraine was “one of the main reasons” for the energy crisis in Europe. “Ukraine has left Central Europe in the lurch in terms of energy supply. Serbia is the country that has acted as a responsible, dependable and fair transit country, ensuring the delivery of sufficient volumes of gas,” he added.
PM Orbán holds talks with Serbia’s Vucic in Belgrade
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán held talks with Serbian President Alexandar Vucic as part of a work visit to Belgrade on Friday, the prime minister’s communications department said in a statement. Orbán and Vucic discussed the development of Hungarian-Serbian energy cooperation. Serbia has become a key country for Hungary’s natural gas supply amid the impact of the sanctions imposed in connection with the war between Russia and Ukraine, the statement said, noting that Hungary receives a daily 20 million cubic metres of gas via its southern neighbour.
The next strategic goal is the construction of a crude pipeline and doubling the electricity transmission capacity between the two countries, they said, noting that preparations for both projects were under way.
