MSC Opera to sail year-round from La Romana

La Romana.- MSC Cruises has announced that its ship, the MSC Opera, will be based year-round in La Romana, establishing the port as a key hub for cruise tourism in the Southern Caribbean. This marks the first time the cruise line will maintain a continuous seasonal presence in the region, offering both summer and winter itineraries.

Starting November 16, 2026, the MSC Opera will offer 7- and 14-night cruises with stops at popular destinations including Catalina Island, Martinique, Guadeloupe, the British Virgin Islands, and Barbados. The decision highlights MSC’s confidence in La Romana’s tourism appeal and port infrastructure.

The move is expected to boost the local economy, generate employment, and elevate La Romana’s status on the international cruise tourism map. Andrés Fernández, commercial director of the Port of La Romana, called the announcement a “historic milestone” for cruise tourism development in the Dominican Republic.
