A wave of kindness is rolling through Bartlesville after two adult tricycles were stolen from a school for kids with autism. Claire Bartley, the Executive Director of Paths to Independence, says tricycles were stolen last week.
"We have students that ride everyday," says Bartley. "That’s one of their special activities. They finish their work and they can go out and ride and they came out and their favorite bike was gone. They were not happy."
Bartley says the school was heartbroken over the theft, but the community has come together to help. B the Light, a local nonprofit in Bartlesville, is donating a new tricycle to the school. Keith McPhail with B the Light says it was a non-brainer when it came to donating.
"Bartlesville has been good to us, so we want to give back as much as we can." says Keith McPhail.
Keith and Christy McPhail say the tricycle is in honor of a former Paths to Independence student, Malcolm, who stayed at B the Light's Warming Shelter.
"He passed away February 2024 just a month after we got our warming shelter. Everybody knew Malcolm, loved Malcom; he was just one of a kind and one of those larger than life individuals."
Bartley says the tricycle is a perfect way to honor Malcolm.
"He loved to ride bikes, so the bikes themselves are special because he rode all over town."
Paths to Independence says one of the two tricycles has been returned to the school.
