CORVALLIS — Oregon State baseball will live to fight another day.

In a win-or-go-home matchup between the two highest-seeded teams in the Corvallis Regional, the Beavers staved off elimination by beating TCU, 7-2, at Goss Stadium. With the loss, the Horned Frog's season is over.

Oregon State will move on to face either USC or St. Mary's at 3 p.m. Sunday. The opponent in that game will be decided when the Trojans and Gaels face off later this evening.

In his first postseason appearance, Beavers' freshman Dax Whitney gave OSU one of the best outings of his career. The right-hander tossed six innings, limited TCU to two earned runs and struck out a career-high 12 batters.

OSU tallied just seven hits, but provided plenty of power in the early innings. Wilson Weber, AJ Singer, Trent Caraway and Tyce Peterson all hit home runs for the Beavers.

Weber, who was one of the hottest hitters in the nation in the month of May, got Oregon State rolling with a massive three-run homer in the first inning.

Oregon State is expected to turn to sophomore lefty Ethan Kleinschmit, its usual Sunday starter, in its third game of the regional. The former Kennedy High star owns a 7-3 record and 3.84 earned run average in 14 starts this season.
